Year One Blog

Firstly, in English we have been using a book called Grandad's Island. We have done some superb writing and experienced being on a ship, exploring Grandad's attic and pretending to be birds swooping in the jungle.

In art this term, we have been looking at Andy Goldsworthy. He makes amazing sculptures using natural material. We have done observational drawings of leaves and sticks. This week we have been outside and made our own sculptures! Check out our pictures.

During reading time, we have been reading a great series called Dory Fantasmagory by Abby Hanlon. Dory, or Rascal as she is known to her family is a 6-year-old girl with a brilliant imagination. This causes her to go on to all sorts of crazy adventures, including meeting her fairy godmother Mr Nuggy and battling her evil enemy Mrs Gobble Gracker! We have raced through these books which have been captivating and hilarious in equal measure.
