It is the UK's first and only accredited 'learn to cycle' programme for children aged 2½ to 6 years old. The programme is designed to help our Early Years Foundation Stage children gain the confidence and skills required to ride a pedal bike independently. This then helps to set them up to participate in our Bikeability programme at a later stage in their school years.
The session started with a fun warm up followed by an introduction to our balance bikes. The children had a lovely time whizzing around the hall and weaving in and out of various obstacles.
Mrs Hill (PE subject lead) quoted: “ At the start of the session not all of the children were able to ride a balance bike, but by the end they all had developed the confidence to have a go. Balanceability not only teaches children how to ride without stabilisers, but also develops children’s balance, gross motor skill and core stability, by having fun through physical activity.”
