We began this term learning about dinosaurs. We used non-fiction books to find out interesting facts about different dinosaurs and shared the stories ‘There’s a Dinosaur in my School’ and ‘Stomp chomp. Big Roars! Here come the Dinosaurs.’
The children solved a mystery, looking for clues to guess who had visited nursery during the night.
They found muddy footprints and a nest full of eggs. They talked about what they saw and came to the conclusion that we had been visited by a dinosaur. We then waited for the eggs to hatch to see if they were correct!
We also read the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and the ‘Gruffalo’, learning about story characters and settings and using props to re-tell stories. We went on our own bear hunt in the sensory garden and explored the woodland area in school. We talked about animals that live in woods and created our own mini woodlands. We also used various construction materials to make a Gruffalo and a Gruffalo house.
In maths the children have been learning to read numbers and use marks to represent number. They have also been learning to solve simple number problem by talking about numbers.
We are looking forward to the summer term, starting with our topic of ‘Spring Baby Animals’.
